Hey Everyone! My summer has been so busy, I've hardly had any time to crochet or design. I'm really super excited about my newest pattern!
If you haven't caught onto the NO FUSS FISH fever, let me tell you it is all over the crochet community. When I got looking into it, this pattern came out in 2015, I'm not sure how I haven't seen it before now, but it is super cute! You can find the pattern from Eden Reborn HERE. After seeing so many fellow crocheters posting their cute fish, and since it is SHARK WEEK, I thought what better than to make a SHARK IN A JAR!
Here is what you need:
- Sport Weight Yarn. I used Hobby Lobby's ILTY Sport in Greybeard.
- 2.75 mm hook (C hook. I love my clover hooks, you can get them here)
- Stitch markers
- Needle
- Small amount of Stuffing
- Black Embroidery Floss (or small safety eyes if you prefer)
- Jar with Lid. I used Ball Mason Jars here
- Rocks and other decorations for your jar.
Before you begin. You can substitute the yarn for worsted or thread, just know that the size of your shark may be different than mine and may need a different sized jar.
TERMS:
MC: Magic Circle
SC: Single Crochet
SS: Slip Stitch
INC: Increase (two SC in same stitch)
DEC: Decrease (SC two stitches together)
FO: Finish off

SHARK BODY
Work in the Round, do not join. Stuff as you go, it will be really hard if you wait til the end.
1. In MC, SC 6
2. SC 6
3. INC around (12)
4. *SC, INC* Repeat * around (18)
2. SC 6

4. *SC, INC* Repeat * around (18)
5-6. SC around (18)
7. *SC 8, INC* Repeat (20)
8. *SC 3, DEC* Repeat around (16)
9. SC around (16)
10. *SC 2, DEC* Repeat around (12)
11. SC around (12)
12. *SC, DEC* Repeat around (8)
13. SC around (8)
14. *SC 2, DEC* Repeat (6)
Do not cut, you now will be working on the TAIL. Do not stuff the tail.
15. INC around (12)
16. *SC, INC* Repeat around (18)
17. SC around (18)
SS to next stitch and cut yarn long. Flatten tail and whip stitch the tail closed using the yarn tail. With yarn still threaded through the needle, push your needle to the start of the tail, at row 15, come out in the middle. Using the photos below as your guide, wrap the yarn around the tail and inserting the needle back through the same stitch. Do this 2 or three times. The tighter you pull the more shape your tail will have. When you are satitsified, sew in the yarn back and forth threw a few stitches to secure and finish off.
DORSAL FIN (Make 1)
1. In MC, SC 6
2. INC around (12)
SS to next stitch and cut yarn long for sewing. Fold circle in half and whip stitch closed. Sew on top of shark body.
SIDE FINS: (Make 2)
In MC, SC 8, do not SS to close. Finish off by cutting long tail pulling through stitch. Fold in half and whip stitch shut. Sew on each side of the body.
To finish your shark, use your black embroidery floss to stitch eyes and a mouth if wanted. To attach your shark to your jar, thread some fishing line or thread through the top of your shark, hold your shark by the top of the string and stick your shark into your jar. Cut your string so your Shark "floats" in the jar where you want it to.
Place a dot of hot glue on the inside of the lid and put the other end of your thread into the glue. Let cool to secure.
Add rocks, sand or other decorations to the bottom your jar. I used Sharpie Markers to draw on some fish and seaweed.
Place lid and you are DONE!
